Our story

Lappajärven Värjäämö - Genuine Joy of Craftsmanship for over 40 Years!

Lappajärven Värjäämö was founded in 1979 through the collaboration of three local weaving mills in Lappajärvi, a village once known as the "carpet capital" of Finland, where nearly every household had a loom. From this strong tradition of craftsmanship grew a company that today stands as Finland´s largest yarn dyehouse.

Over the decades, our dyeing operations have expanded to include a wide range of craft and hobby materials under our Filona brand - from cotton tricot and tube yarns to paper twines and linen threads. At the heart of everything is a Finnish Craftmanship, quality and responsibility. That´s why our products proudly carry the Key Flag Symbol (Avainlippu), as a sign of 100 % Finnish work.

In addition to our traditional dyeing and yarn sales, we have expanded our operations into fiberbased wiping and cleaning products through NM-WIPES

Lappajärven Värjäämö - the colourful story of Finnish craftsmanship that continues.

All our paper twines are made locally in Lappajärvi, just a few steps from our dyehouse. We use durable wet-strenght paper, ensuring high quality, washability and long lasting use.

The twines are spun by our sister company VM-Carpet, located in the same courtyard, and then dyed and finished at our own dyehouse. We use OEKO TEX certified dyes, and all chemicals comply with EU REACH regulations. Wastewater is treated in our own purification unit before being directed to a waste management facility.

The result is a stunning range of eco-friendly, Key Flag certified paper twines, perfect for crocheting, weaving, knitting, macrame and crafts.
